Which column for which (U)HPLC?

While everyone is into UHPLC, many standard methods still run on classical HPLC systems. But what happens if you use a UHPLC optimized SEC column on a non-optimized classical HPLC system? And vice versa: a HPLC column on a UHPLC system? In this application note there is demonstrated that column and system need to match.
