Benefits of semi-micro columns

The columns of choice for use with the EcoSEC GPC system are referred to as semi-micro columns (dimensions are smaller than conventional columns in terms of internal diameter as well as length: 4.6 mm or 6 mm ID x 15 cm L). 

Semi-micro column dimensions are advantageous in terms of shorter analysis time (more samples analyzed per unit time), lower solvent consumption and reduced solvent disposal cost. The EcoSEC GPC system is designed to achieve these benefits. Other GPC systems must be optimized with respect to delay or dead volume as this results in extra-column peak broadening, thus lowering resolution, accuracy and precision.

Minimal extra-column band broadening is required to take full advantage of the highest efficiency GPC columns available. The EcoSEC GPC system uses state of the art fluidics and an innovative design that results in low dead volume. Together with a small stroke volume pump and a 2.5 µL RI flow cell, the EcoSEC GPC system delivers short analysis times, excellent reliability and low operating cost. Semi-micro TSK-GEL GPC columns, 4.6 mm ID x 15 cm L, are at the heart of the EcoSEC GPC system.
